The Jip Kye Sohn Logo

In 2000 when we started our own Tang Soo Do school it needed a name. The name had to sound right and it had to do about Tang Soo Do.
We wanted an unique name and because all the Korean names with deeper meaning, we knew of, were already in use it became: Jip Kye Sohn.
Jip Kye Sohn means claw hand. It is a technique to grab somebody by the wrist or throat.

With the name a fitting logo was needed. Bauke and Marja designed the logo together.

The base of the logo are 2 mirrored claw hands; Jip Kye Sohn.
These hands are deliberate a-symmetric placed, to make the logo less tied.
In between the hands you see 2 Tang Soo Do ka's making a jump kick; the specific character of Tang Soo Do.
Under the Tang Soo Do ka's you can see the Chinese signs for Tang Soo Do.
On the right site you see the Dutch National Flag; our nationality.
On the left site you see the Korean flag; the land where Tang Soo Do originated.
The colours red and blue come back in both the Dutch and the Korean Flag, in the Yin and Yang symbol; the opposing but complementary forces.
