History of Jip Kye Sohn.
The history of Jip Kye Sohn began when, Bauke and Marja Dijkstra, themselves began to train Tang Soo Do.
In the past Marja practiced Judo and also Kyokoshin Karate at "Sport school Korzelius" in Amsterdam and with Raymond Snel at "Sport school de Leeuw" in Leeuwarden.
Marja started Tang Soo Do in October 1988 with "sport center Bartels" in Harlingen.
Here Willem Bartels and Paul Pander taught the lessons.
The sport school was a member of the "Nederlandse Moo Duk Kwan bond" of Master Theo Salm.
Marja participated in tournaments and Bauke was a loyal supporter, but did not wanted him self to be an active Tang Soo Do member. In December 1989 Marja persuaded him to take one lesson and the result was that Bauke was infected with the Tang Soo Do virus, Bauke, whom never participated in any sport even took part in competitions!
In January 1991 sport center Bartels joint the World Tang Soo Do Association, with Dutch representative Aldwin Lee, and all the members went along with this transfer.
The World Tang Soo Do Association is a large worldwide spread Tang Soo Do Association with about 100.000 members in 2001. The Grandmaster of this association is Jae Chul Shin.
Bauke and Marja have met him several times.
In 1991 Bauke and Marja participated in the European Championships in Bristol.
There would follow another three European Championship tournaments:
1997 in Rotterdam, 1999 in Inverness and 2001 in Newport South Wales.
In 1992 sport center Bartels stopped and Paul Pander went on with Tang Soo Do. He started Tang Soo Do Studio Shi Sun.
On one day in 1992 Bauke and Marja met Tang Soo Do-ka Geert van Slooten and during this meeting they talked about starting their own Tang Soo Do school one day and teaching Tang Soo Do themselves…
Bauke and Marja trained along with Studio Shi Sun.
In May 1998 Bauke took his 1st Dan exam and passed it.
Marja's Tang Soo Do carrier was paused twice by pregnancies (1993 son Jeroen and 1995 daughter Marijke), but she passed in October 1999 for her black belt exam.
Beginning 2000 the plans for starting an own Tang Soo Do school came on the table.
A name was made up: Jip Kye Sohn. School regulations were written down, and with the cooperation of Paul Pander and the members of Tang Soo Do Studio Shi Sun on 9 September 2000 a demonstration was held in Sneek.
The first trial lesson was given on 18 September 2000 and from that moment on Tang Soo Do Club Jip Kye Sohn is active.
In July 2001 Tang Soo Do Club Jip Kye Sohn transferred to another Tang Soo Do association: The Tang Soo (Soo Bahk) Do Federation Moo Duk Kwan Holland, with Dutch representative Master Sjef Lamens, 4th Dan, a member of the International Tang Soo (Soo Bahk) Do Federation Moo Duk Kwan with Grandmaster Kang Uk Lee.
This federation has, world wide, over 24.000 members. Bauke and Marja have met Grandmaster Kung Uk Lee.
