WHAT IS TANG SOO DO?
Tang Soo Do is the traditional Korean art of self-defence. It is a system of self-defence against unarmed and armed attackers.
The ancestral art of Tang Soo Do is more than 2000 years old.
It all started with the need of people to defend them selves and their possessions. The Chinese arts of self-defence were of influence on Tang Soo Do. With Tang Soo Do not only the body but also the mind is made strong. But it needs discipline and perseverance of the participant to achieve this.
Everybody can practice Tang Soo Do no matter the age, flexibility, strength or small disabilities. You can train for a self-set goal or just for fun. Tang Soo Do is a nice way to relax and release stress and a good opportunity to get a better physical condition. Also for children it is a good manner to use up energy and to learn to control them selves.
There are different items in Tang Soo Do, on which:
punching techniques, kicking techniques and combinations of these
Il Soo Sik Dae Ryun Soo Ki: 1 step hand techniques
Il Soo Sik Dae Ryun Jok Ki: 1 step kicking techniques
Ho Sin Sul: self-defence
Hyungs: a pattern of techniques
Kyuck Pa: breaking techniques
Tang Soo Do has a system of coloured belts to show the progress of the participants.
Tournaments.
Regularly tournaments are held in which voluntarily entry is possible in different categories:
Hyungs: a pattern of techniques
Weapon Hyungs: a pattern of techniques with weapons
Dae Ryun: non-contact based free fighting.
Kyuck Pa: breaking techniques
Every year Dutch championships are held.
Every 2 years European- and World championships are organised.
And also regional- and club championships are held.
It is nice to watch, but to participate is even more fun.
Certified instructors give trainings under auspicial of the World Tang Soo Do Association.
